Ade: Permisi Mas, boleh duduk di sini? (excuse me, may I sit here?)

Soma: Ya silakan mbak. (yes, go ahead, miss)

Ade: Ya, makasih. Udah dari tadi? (Thank you. Have you been here for a while?)

Soma: Udah satu jam.  (I have been an hour already)

Ade: Wah.. lama ya. Masnya asli sini? (Wow... that has been a while. Are you originally from here?)

Soma: Bukan. Saya dari Denpasar. Mbaknya dari mana? (No. I am from Denpasar. Where are you from, miss?)

Ade: Oh gitu.. Saya dari Surabaya. Saya Ade. Mas, namanya siapa? (I see.. I am from Surabaya. I am Ade. What is you name, brother?)

Soma: Saya Soma, mbak. Sudah lama di Bali? (I am Soma, Miss. How long have you been in Bali)?

Ade: Baru satu bulan. (Just one month)

Soma: Wah.. baru ya. Suka Bali? (Wow... that's still new. Do you like Bali?)

Ade: Ya suka sekali, tapi belum tahu banyak tentang Bali. (Yes, I really like it, but I do not know much about Bali)

Soma: Oh ya. Pelan-pelan. Nanti juga tahu. (Oh I see. Take your time. You will know later)

Ade: Ya benar juga sih. (Yes, that is true)

Soma: Oh .. Sudah giliran saya. Saya duluan ya mbak. (Oh, it is my turn. I should go now)

Ade: Oh ya mas silakan. Sampai nanti ya. (Yes, please brother. See you around)

Language Notes

  • Udah, short for "sudah" = already/finished
  • Mas = older brother or form of address (like 'bro/brother' in English)
  • Mbak = older sister or miss
  • Oh gitu, short for "Oh begitu" = oh it's like that
  • sih = an interjection meaning "tho" in this context
